Given the proposed continuation of the pedestrian path from Philopappos Hill through the Koile Site, the Museum’s configuration allows for the existing topography to form a passage between the eastern und western sides. Pedestrian have the choice of walking between the Petralona district and the Pholopappos Hill or of entering the Museum via a ramp that leads from the eastern end of the building to the upper terrace. This is where all external paths are collected and brought down to the entrance level of the Museum. People approaching from the Petrolana district can pass through the widened passage underneath the dual carriageway, so as to enter the Museum through the foyer to the multi-purpose hall, which in turn is connected to the Museum’s entrance level above. The building consists of three distinct parts. There is the linear element which stretches north to south containing circulation and service requirements. The two other elements contain the principal exhibition spaces.
